Robert G. (Bobby) Donnell
|
|
|
Bobby Donnell is the founder and senior partner of Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt (previously Donnell
and Assoc.). Originally his firm consisted of simply a typewriter, Rebecca Washington and big dreams.
Now, Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt and Bobby himself are very well known in Boston, and have been highly
recommended by many. Bobby is a great lawyer, and is willing to represent almost anybody who will come
to him. As with most of his firm, Bobby loves being a criminal defence attorney, but does struggle with
the ethical and moral problems it can cause.
|
Bobby began his firm with nothing, intending to prove something to the 'blue chip' lawyers that his
father worked for (as a janitor) and who treated his father less than civilly. Bobby was determined not
to turn into those people, and because of this determination, has gradually developed a success phobia.
This phobia has caused some problems within the firm, particularly with Lindsay, who objected to working
in a 'rat-infested office' (Trees in the Forest). The end of season two saw the firm grow from Donnell
and Associates to Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt. Bobby even allowed a conference room.
|
Personally, Bobby is slightly insecure. After a few failed romances (one with a client) and a secret
office fling with Lindsay, Bobby felt a strong attraction to Helen Gamble. However, this was rather
short-lived, as their professional lives intruded. In the third season, Bobby began to confront his true
feelings, and realised how much he loved Lindsay, finally proposing to her in the third season finale.
The fourth season sees them developing their relationship.
